Nokia's Ovi Store is growing faster than Apple's App Store

The Dutch app store analytics Distimo reports, Nokia’s Ovi store is growing faster than Apple’s App store measured by number Apps added in 2010. According to Distimo Nokia’s free applications surged 10- fold in to a total of 25,000 apps.

Nokia has always stressed the importance of apps for retaining share within the fast growing smartphone market. Nokia has organized several developer contents last year. Nokia has also streamlined its developing tools with new version of QT. Qt is a cross-platform application and UI framework. Using Qt, developers can write web-enabled applications for mobile devices and for desktops. QT is available for almost all platforms like, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Symbian and MeeGo.


Nokai needs a mobile advertisement solution
Nokia definitely needs a mobile advertisement solution to compete with Google’s Admob and and Apple’s iAd. Games, maps, media, messaging and music apps dominate Ovi store and most of them are free. Users do not want pay for this applications so most of those apps are add supported. Since Nokia doesn’t have a mobile advertisement solution, it doesn’t generate much revenue with Ovi apps.


130,000 Android apps
According to Distimo Android Market with free apps was the second fastest growing app store and Blackbery AppWorld the third fast growing app store. Android Market hast more than 130,000 applications by Dec. 31 and BlackBerry’s more than 18,000 apps.

Apple is still the unreachable leader
In absolute numbers Nokia is for behind Apple with a total of 300,000. In 2010 Apple doubled the number applications on iTtunes app store.
